Kahalgaon is located in Bhagalpur District (3rd largest city in Bihar). It is about 30 km east of Bhagalpur.
Kahalgaon is located at 25.27°N 87.22°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 16 metres (52 feet). It is located on the bank of the Ganga river.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Kahalgaon had a population of 2,91,283. Male constitute 53% of the population and female 47%. Kahalgaon has an average literacy rate of 57%. Male literacy is 63% and, female literacy is 50%. Angika is the local dialect and is spoken by majority. Hindi, Urdu, and English are also spoken by different section of the population.
Kahalgaon has immense historical and archeological importance. Fine carvings of Gupta period excavated from here underlines this. Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary is the major attraction here. The town also houses a thermal power station.
